The 49ers on Tuesday waived a pair of young players at two of the weakest positions on their roster. They announced the releases of wide receiver Victor Bolden Jr. and cornerback Greg Mabin off the 53-man roster. There were no corresponding moves announced.

Bolden joined the 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of Oregon State last season. He was suspended for four games to start this season for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy. He played in four games and notched one catch for 10 yards. Bolden appeared in nine games as a rookie, mostly on special teams.

Mabin had an up-and-down year for San Francisco. He didn’t see the field until Week 4 against the Chargers. He played well in that game and earned more snaps over the next three weeks, including a career-high 49 in Week 7 vs. the Rams. His level of play diminished and he was inactive against the Cardinals in Week 8. He joined the 49ers in October 2017 and appeared in six games after being moved to the active roster from the practice squad.

The 49ers now have two vacant roster spots with both outside linebacker Dekoda Watson and safety Marcell Harris eligible to return Thursday night against the Raiders.
